2019-2022

I had the great fortune to reprise my Ovation Award winning role as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill over the past four years.  It has been a tremendous experience.  Directed by Wren T. Brown and produced by the Ebony Rep, the show has enjoyed tremendous success after its initial run at International City Theatre in Long Beach, CA. We perforemd at the National Black Theatre Festival, freeFall Theatre in St. Petersburg, FLA, PCPA in Solvang, CA, and at the Ebony Rep in Los Angeles.

Critics have described the production as:

“THRILLING AND EXTRAORDINARILY MOVING… the excellent Karole Foreman brings Billie Holiday to vivid life…" --Paul Myrvold, Theatre Notes

"...KAROLE FOREMAN AS THE INCOMPERABLE BILLIE HOLIDAY, and magnificent work is achieved here. From the exceptional quality of her vocal stylings to the expert attention paid to costuming and hair, you would think Billie Holiday was re-incarnated before your eyes..." -- Drew Eberhard, Broadway Wolrd

"There are moments, many of them, in the freeFall Theatre production of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, when it appears that actress and singer KAROLE FOREMAN HAS ACTUALLY CHANNELED BILLIE HOLIDAY." --Bill DeYoung, St. Pete Catalyst

"FOUR STARS… A POTENT PRODUCTION… tenderly detailed direction… a stellar Karole Foreman as legendary singer Billie Holiday” --Dany Margolies, Southern California News Group

“A MUST-SEE PRODUCTION… a remarkable characterization… it’s as if Billie Holiday has come to life”-- Ben Miles, Showmag

“SEARING… be ready to ride the roller-coaster of emotion… Karole Foreman as the mythically iconic Lady Day holds you captive.” — Sean McMullen, Grunion Gazette

Upcoming Residency with Noise Now!

May 25th & 26th, 2020--

DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE RESIDENCY HAS BEEN MOVED TO AUGUST 2020. MORE INFO TBA.

2023 Update...well, so many things in our lives have changed since 2020, and the opportunity to continue to develop this project is among them.  The residency no longer exists, but I am reinvigorating my search to find another development home for Rule My World and another musical that I am writing.  Stay tuned!

Exciting News!

I was invited to be a part of a residency with Noise Now at A Noise Within in Pasadena, to continue to develop my urban opera Rule My World.  The show is a modern reworking of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra.

The residency takes place in May 2020 over three weeks with two performances on May 25th and 26th.

Noise Now is an initiative created by their Director of Cultural Programming Jonathan Muñoz-Proulx. The residency provides rehearsal space and other resources to foster the development of new work and to build allyship with local artists and peer organizations.
